Paint Correction Frequently Asked Questions

Know Before You Go: Precision Detailing Lays It All Out

  • What Does A Full Paint Correction Consist Of?

The first step in a full paint correction is to remove any oxidation or fading with a polish or compound.

Next, the swirls and scratches are removed using a polish or compound and a polishing pad.

Finally, the car is waxed to protect the finish and give it a glossy shine.

  • How Long Does A Full Paint Correction Take?

Well, it depends on a multitude of factors. We do our best to get every vehicle in and out in a decent amount of time, but there are times where your vehicle may need extra love and attention. We’ll provide the amount of care your vehicle needs, no matter how lengthy.

To be general, Paint correction at Precision Detailing is a process that can take anywhere from 10 hours to 20 plus hours of multiple stages of compound and polish. Talk to your technician to get a confirmed quote of service length.

  • Does Paint Correction Remove The Clear Coat?

A grainy substance called a cutting compound is used in the polishing process.

When you turn on the electric polisher, the polish liquid or paste is evenly disseminated throughout the vehicle’s painted surface, causing friction to cut through the transparent layer, removing the slight amount of clear coat to level the paintwork.

  • Is Paint Correction Permanent?

    Not even love lasts forever.

If the car is mostly for show, a good paint correction job could last years. If the car is used every day then a paint correction job could only last 6 months.

But, there is no exact timeline. Keep your vehicle clean and well-maintained for its longevity.

  • How Often Should You Do Paint Correction?

The frequency with which you need to correct your paint will depend on a few things: how often you drive your car, the climate you live in, and the type of paint protection you have applied.
If you drive your car regularly and live in a hot climate, then you will likely need to correct your paint more often than someone who only drives their car occasionally and lives in a colder climate.

Similarly, if you have a clear bra or another form of paint protection installed on your car, then you may not need to perform corrective action as often.

  • How Many Times Can A Car Be Painted Corrected?

In most cases, two or three corrections are possible before the paint begins to show signs of wear. If swirl marks or scratches are not too deep, they can usually be corrected with light polishing and/or compounding.

Heavier scratches and oxidation may require more aggressive measures such as wet sanding or machine buffing.

  • When You Should Get Your Vehicle's Paint Job Corrected?

If your vehicle is looking a little lackluster, or you’re noticing marks that impact the overall look, you might want to consider getting a paint correction.

It’s normal for the color to be less vibrant after a while.

We can help get your car looking bright, shiny, and new again! Book an appointment today.

Learn what you need to know about paint correction, first.

What is Paint Correction?

Car paint correction is the process of restoring a car’s paint finish to its original condition. This can be done through a variety of methods, including polishing, waxing, and painting.

The goal of car paint correction is to remove any scratches, blemishes, or other imperfections from the surface of the paint to give it a smooth, shiny finish.

At Precision Detailing, we like to divide paint correction into multiple stages, based mainly on the damage to the clear coating:

• Stage 1 – Polishing

A single-step polishing job is performed by our experts using a cutting compound (or the liquid polish) and a pad.

This stage of paint correction is intended to remove small marring and swirl marks that are lightly removed.

• Stage 2 – Paint Progression

When the car’s paint has moderate or medium swirl marks and scratches that are embedded in the clear, we’re going to use 2 different polishes and pad combinations.

Typically, it starts by using a more abrasive polish first, then stepping down to a finer compound, to remove any light scratches left by the first step.

• Stage 3 – Deep Paint Correction

If the car’s paint has heavy swirl marks, marring, or other defects.

We’ll use a heavy cutting compound, with a machine polisher, and a polishing pad – to dig into that paint damage.

Then, progressively decreases the grit, and finally, a light polishing compound should smooth out the damage.

5 Benefits of Paint Correction For Your Car

Paint correction is the process of removing swirls and scratches from a car’s paint finish to restore it to its original condition.

There are many benefits of paint correction, including:

• Restoring the paint finish to its original condition.
• Making the car look new again.
• Protecting the paint from future swirls and scratches.
• Making the car easier to clean and maintain.
• A cost-effective way to increase its resale value.

Why Choose Paint Correction Services By Precision Detailing

At Precision Detailing paint correction is our specialty and we are proud to stake our reputation on it.

Paint correction is a long and labor-intensive process through which paint is compounded correctly, polished, and restored to bring back that like-new or even better than new finish.

Utilizing some of the best products and safest techniques, we can take paint in any condition to a whole new level of clarity and shine, without jeopardizing the paint thickness.

We focus individually on each vehicle and develop a process that is specifically tailored to that vehicle.

Before any paint correction work is scheduled, we perform a thorough assessment.

During this evaluation, we evaluate the paintwork, measure the clear coat thickness and thoroughly discuss the owner’s concerns and expectations.

Paint correction is our most valuable and beneficial service for almost any vehicle.

Utilizing two or more stages of machine polishing, the paint is greatly improved and many times looks better than in new condition.

This is achieved by removing unsightly swirl marks, greatly improving deep scratches or defects, and bringing out a clarity that brings the shine, gloss, and reflections of the paint to a whole new level.

While the level of improvement will greatly depend on the paint type and condition, we are normally able to accomplish 85-95%+ defect removal after two or three stages of paint correction.

Recommended for vehicles with paint in fairly poor condition, having moderate defects like fading, oxidation, large amounts of swirl marks, scratches, etc.

If you’re looking to give your car a boost in value, consider having it undergo paint correction.

• Increases the Car’s Paint Longevity

Paint correction not only makes a car look better but also increases its longevity. By removing swirls and scratches, you’re preventing them from becoming worse over time.

The paint will also be less likely to fade or chip if it’s in good condition.

• Makes the Car Easier to Wash and Maintain

If you’re like most people, then the thought of having to spend hours upon hours washing and detailing your car is probably not something that sounds appealing. And while it’s true that keeping your car clean requires a bit of work, there are a few things you can do to make the process easier – like using paint correction.

Paint correction is a process that helps to remove scratches, swirls, and other blemishes from your car’s paint job. Not only does this make the car look nicer, but it also makes it easier to wash and maintain in the long run.
